Search architecture

Search API and Solr set up so people find things — with facets, autocomplete, document indexing and relevance you can actually tune.

What you get

  • Search API and Solr index design
  • Faceted search and filtering
  • Autocomplete and best bets
  • File and PDF content indexing
  • Relevance tuning against real queries
  • Local Solr parity in DDEV

Most site searches fail in the same two ways: they index the wrong things, and nobody ever looks at what people searched for.

We design the index around how your content is actually structured and how people actually ask for it, add facets where browsing beats querying, index the attachments people are really after, and put query logging in from the start so relevance can be tuned against evidence rather than opinion.

Solr runs in a container locally, matching whatever your hosting platform provides, so search behaves the same on a laptop as in production.

Questions we get asked

Core search is fine for a small site with simple content. The moment you want facets, weighted relevance, autocomplete or documents indexed, you want Solr — and most hosting platforms for Drupal provide it.
