Most of this site is behind a login, which changes the engineering. Caching has to respect who is asking. Search has to return only what the member is entitled to see. An authentication outage is not a degraded experience, it is an outage.
The portal authenticates against both SAML and LDAP, indexes its gated resource libraries in Solr with access-aware filtering, and was carried onto Drupal 11 with a readiness audit, a compatibility matrix and a cutover runbook rather than an optimistic afternoon.
